This is very small and effective and once you get it working !,
I have a couple of palm sized routers but this is by far the smallest. It is powered via a USB connection – no PSU supplied. It worked straight from the box but the firmware had a number of the options greyed out. The router has a WAN connection and a wireless connection so is not meant to be used with an ethernet connection to a PC. I thought this may be why all the firmware options were not available but then discovered I could not even adjust its IP address. I contacted Clever Gadgets who provided details and software to enable upgrade within 24hrs; this solved the IP adress issue – Ive not checked some of the more esteric functions. The upgrade software would not work with my W7 PC but functioned without problem under Xp.
Summary:
Fantastic way of setting up a WiFi link to a network (corporate/hotel).
The only reason it has 4 stars is because to use full capabilities you might need firmware upgrade which is a ittle fiddly but eventually effective.

|Excellent device,
I’ve purchased it to be able to connect to my PC at the office remotely from conference rooms. Setup is slightly confusing but I’m IT guy and after 10-15 minutes jiggling around it started working as a charm. Now when I need my personal WiFi hotspot I take this tiny device out from the desk, plug into USB and a spare ethernet line, and off you go, in a question of seconds.
Note 1: or initial setup, instead of trying to connect via ethernet, you’d better join its open WiFi network. For me it worked out of the box and I hand’t any problems with the default IP address mentioned by other customers.
Note 2: I would recommend to e-mail the seller for the software update. The device is a kind of noname, so I didn’t find any official web page with firmware updates, but the seller sent me the update next day. The update is not critical for the regular use. I’ve found only one little issue — I wanted to use hidden SSID (when SSID is not visible by default and you have to know a name of the network to connect). Unfortunately the original firmware didn’t allow me to change it. After the update it works fine and my personal WiFi network is not visible by scanning.
Note 3: When you install the update from the seller on Windows Vista or 7, you *must* run the updater with administrator privileges.
Hope that help.

|Not exacly plug & play,
I was hoping that this travel wifi router would be the ideal solution for creating an mini wifi zone for my various devices (ipad, iphone, PC) when travelling, especially when staying in hotels that still do not have wifi and insist on handing-out ethernet cables for internet access. Whilst this product is very compact and promises internet access through wifi, I still can’t get the product to work. I don’t have these issues with broadband routers in my home which seem to work quite hapilly out of the box, so why does this product have to be so difficult to use. With a bit of perserverance I am sure I will get it to work eventually, however it really shouldn’t be this hard for what is a consumer device. Maybe I’ve just fallen behind in the technology stakes and kids at school today are taught how to manually configure firewalls, IP stacks, switches, routers, and the entire internet and enjoy such challenges.
PS – The instructions are not very user friendly!
